Are Teens Really Worshiping....Or Just Feelin' the Beat?
In today's fast moving culture, teens tend to feel that they need to have a quick beat surrounding the same twenty words that are sung in constant repetition. Hymns are thought of as "the old people thing" and therefore have no place in our modern churches. Please do not take me wrong, I really do love some of the worship songs that we sing in church, but I think that youth are so dependant on drums and a swinging beat that they forget the purpose of being in church in the first place--to worship God.
In a recent song that I heard, the singer made obvious mentions to dancing while worshipping. After all, "The spirit is in you and me..." I really did not think much of it, but now that I think about it, I realize that many Christian artists try to force youth into believing that swaying your body around is fine when worshipping....are they right? I don't think so. You see, often times youth misconstrue what is right (praising God from the depths of our hearts) and what is for sight only (swaying to and from so that men will THINK you are praising.) Big Dif!!!
Thought....just try to praise God from your heart...if He calls you to raise your hands or worship differently...do it. But try to think of the heart of the matter before you make a spectacle out of yourself for the mere reason of attention.

Wow! Some great thoughts! Our world, and even so many Christians, get so caught up in sensualism, emotionalism, etc... that we forget our true purpose in praise. Christ is worthy of the most reverent WORSHIP, and though worship doesn't have to be boring, entertainment should not be our goal. We need to go back to the HEART of worship...because its ALL about Him.
